Federal Appeals Court Rejects Meadows' Effort to Block Georgia Subpoena

Court Upholds Lower Court Ruling

Meadows Sought to Halt Subpoena in Fulton County Election Interference Investigation

ATLANTA, Sept. 11 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Monday rejected an effort by former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to block a subpoena from a Georgia prosecutor investigating possible election interference by the former president and his allies.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that denied Meadows' request for an injunction to stop Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from subpoenaing his phone records.

Willis is investigating whether Trump and his allies attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, which Biden won by a narrow margin. Meadows, who served as Trump's chief of staff from 2020 to 2021, has been subpoenaed to testify before a special grand jury convened by Willis.

Meadows has argued that the subpoena is overly broad and would violate his constitutional rights. However, the appeals court found that the lower court had properly balanced Meadows' privacy interests against the need for the information in the investigation.

Meadows' attorney, George Terwilliger III, said in a statement that they were "disappointed" with the ruling and were considering their options, including a possible appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
